The island nation of Palau has banned fishing in a sizeable area of its waters, hoping that protecting marine life will help save fish species and also attract sustainable tourists to boost revenues.
Tourism brings in an estimated $160 million annually, almost half the country’s GDP, while commercial fishing – mostly for tuna – has brought in about $5.5 million each year
