In line with the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development declared by the UN, the 9th edition of IT.A.CÀ Festival, the first festival on responsible tourism, invites you to discover places and cultures through tours, exhibitions, workshops, concerts, documentaries, book’s presentations and laboratories. Through different events, the festival aims to promote a new concept of tourism, more ethical and respectful of the environment and of the people that live in the territory.
This year for the first time, the Rimini edition of the festival will host the international conference “Green Destinations Day Italy” on September 22nd, with the participation of international experts and bringing examples of best practices on sustainable tourism, to inspire the local community to take action.
The Festival of Responsible Tourism in Rimini is organized by the Centre for Advanced Studies in Tourism (CAST) from the University of Bologna, which has been established in February 2014 in Rimini Campus. Its mission includes promotion, design and implementation of research projects, lifelong learning courses and advanced education. The Center is member of the UNESCO/Unitwin Network, the Network for Cultural Routes Studies of the Council of Europe and EUNek. It is also the publisher of AlmaTourism, Journal of Tourism, Culture and Territorial Development and participate in the [email protected] project, a multi-language, interdisciplinary, international review on tourism.

Don’t miss the world’s largest sustainable destinations event of the year! Dedicated to Storytelling and Showcasing Sustainable Tourism Successes, by Top 100 Sustainable Destinations and global destination leaders.
GREENFEST is a large public event on sustainability, attracting 4000-6000 visitors daily. One of the topics of the 2017 edition is “Green Travel”. GREENFEST is held in the Estoril Conference Centre (ECC) in Cascais at only 25 km from Lisbon.
28 September :
– Morning: GREENFEST Opening Conference, Estoril Conference Centre, Cascais.
– Afternoon: Sustainable tourism field trips offered by the city of Cascais. Options:
Field trip to Quinta do Pisão: recovery of abandoned agricultural lands and the creation of a Nature Park of high value for recreation and tourism.
Field trip to the Cresmina Dune Interpretation Center and a 4 km walk: recovery of a sand dune area of high value for nature, recreation and tourism.
Adventure option: high rope trail and abseiling activities.
-Evening: 2017 Sustainable Destinations Dinner, offered by the city of Cascais and presentation of the 2017 Sustainable Destinations Top 100.
29 September : Global Green Destinations Conference, Estoril Conference Centre, Cascais.
– Morning: Success stories presented by global destination leaders.
– Afternoon: Success stories and good practices presented by award-winning Top 100 Sustainable Destinations, in three parallel sessions. Presentations are delivered either in English or in Portuguese.
30 September :
-Full-day study trip on sustainable tourism in the Oeste Region, offered by the city of Torres Vedras.
-Presentations of responsible tourism destinations around the world, by selected Top 100 Destinations, for the GREENFEST general audience. (Estoril Conference Centre).

In the framework of the 2017 UN International Year for Sustainable Tourism for Development this conference
wishes to provide a platform for tourism professionals, academics and practitioners from other SIDS and the
region to discuss an integrated practical approach to sustainable tourism in SIDS. For this event, the
Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Foundation (SSTF), and the University of Seychelles (Department of Tourism
and Cultural Heritage) partnered up with the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas’ Tourism and
Protected Areas Specialist Group (TAPAS group), the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and the Paris
Tourism Sorbonne Institute of Research and Higher Education in Tourism (IREST), to organize a regional
conference on sustainable tourism in SIDS, which will combine academic tourism research with practical best
practice examples. The conference aims at connecting the various stakeholders working and researching the
environmental and socio-cultural development of the tourism industry, for constructive discussions and
networking. The specificity of this event would be to bring together experts working in the field of protected
area management and specialists in cultural site preservation, to create synergistic knowledge and fruitful
